With 40 global licensees now in place for National Gallery, JELC is heading to Vegas to strengthen its US offering. Jane Evans, licensing agent for the brand talks to Licensing.biz...
What are you showcasing at this year’s Expo?
This year we are focussed on the National Gallery, London with whom we are just beginning to develop licensing programmes outside the UK.
Our focus is on North America and the Far East and we expect to be making announcements at the show about our progress in Japan.
Why is 2017 a big year for you?
Our core of licensees now reaches 40 whose business covers not only the UK but also other parts of the world.
In January we launched our wine in Sainsbury’s, through Santa Rita, a major wine producer from Chile who are now working on opportunities in Canada, Korea, Japan, China and other European territories.
Later this year we will launch a range of art products from Royal Talens, a worldwide leader in this product category whose Head Offices are in the Netherlands and Japan.
In August our first adult and children’s licensed books will be launched by Hachette.
What demand have you seen for JELC’s properties this year?
2017 has so far been a really good year for us with opportunities for the National Gallery in key categories of apparel and accessories and the expansion of our highly successful 2016 range of food gifting in Boots for Christmas 2017 with additional skus and more stores.
Prior to travelling to Licensing Expo we travelled to China, South Korea and Japan in April and are concluding opportunities to launch the National Gallery branded licensed product in those markets later this year.
What are you hoping to achieve at this year’s show?
We are particularly looking for opportunities to reach out to US licensees to develop a strong licensing programme in North America.
The key categories for us are apparel and accessories, paper goods and gifting.
What can we expect to see from you this year and beyond?
A truly international licensing programme from North America to the Far East including strong presence in both Europe and the Middle East.
