Pyramid International talks the magic of Harry Potter, Star Wars and the awards season

Robert Ling, marketing executive at the licensed gifting specialist Pyramid International talks Licensing.biz through its stellar year so far.

How has 2016 been for Pyramid International so far? 

2016 has been a great year. We have seen some fantastic titles released, such as Captain America: Civil War and Suicide Squad. There is also so much still to come with films such as Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

From a licensing perspective, these are great to own, as not only are the films fantastic, but they are immensely popular and perfect for the products we produce.  

What new licenses have you guys picked up this year and what have been the best performing lines for you this year?

We have signed many new licenses this year including PAW Patrol, Peppa Pig, Transformers and My Little Pony to name but a few in a very particular category.  

With a range as wide as ours, it is hard to pick one best performer. Our range of mugs have proven to be very successful with our Game of Thrones line being one of our best sellers. Similarly, our range of DC doormats are proving popular as are our Find Dory Posters.  

How has performance this year compared to 2015?

2016 has been a good year, as was 2015. We have seen sustained growth from 2015 -16 and our product range has grown as well. We continue to go from strength to strength. 

What do you make of the state of the licensing industry, is it in good health? 

There is an air of optimism throughout Pyramid. We continue to sign big, new licenses and are always creating and designing new products. So for us, the outlook is good.  

What are the biggest areas of growth for Pyramid International? 

We have seen great success with our gifting ranges which includes mugs and high-end stationery which we have been nominated for a licensing award. These ranges are very popular with the consumer, so we are always working on new designs and ensuring we get the best licenses. For that reason, we continue to grow. 

Are there any new product categories you guys are looking to get into? 

We are always looking for the next big product we can release. The best example would be our collection of licensed doormats which includes DC, Marvel,Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Our DC line has been nominated for a Licensing Award and shows how innovative we are as a company. As for new categories moving forward, you will have to wait and see  

What are your most popular properties at the moment?

Currently, our ranges for Suicide Squad, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones are all doing very well, we expect Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Rogue One to be up there with our best sellers when they are released.  

What does the Licensing Awards nomination mean to you? What would a win mean to you guys? 

To be nominated for not just one but two Licensing awards is fantastic. I think it goes some way to show how dedicated we are to creating the very best licensed products in the market and it is great to get recognition from the industry. To win the award would be the icing on the cake. It would be a truly brilliant moment and one I think our work here deserves.
