Petite Frite and Ciao Bella appearing at Olympia for the first time.
Twist and Trout’s Cathy Yersin started her career as a graphic designer but quickly learned that her passion was illustration.
While in California she worked for the brand Pampered Girls, during which time she also learned plenty about licensing and illustrated three children books for Barnes and Noble. Exhibiting at BLE for the first time this year Yersin brings two brands she has created herself: The Happy World of Petite Frite and Ciao Bella!
The Happy World of Petite Frite has a simple goal: to offer joy to children - and their parents - with a pinch of humour. Each colourful character was initially created for the game ‘Petite Frite’ (an iPad and iPhone game available on the app store) and has a distinct personality and style which appeals to every child.
The game ‘Petite Frite’ was launched in June 2012 and now the brand has little fans all over the world. Yersin intends to develop the brand by creating a strong emotional bond with children. The next step is to develop a Petite Frite Club through the website; a series of books/cartoons starring a character of Petite Frite (four stories have already been written by Sesame Street author, Margaret Snyder) and, in her wildest dreams, an amusement park for very young children.
As for product licensing opportunities, Yersin sees the possibilities are great and include cartoons, children’s books, stationery, clothing, toys, back to school items, bedding sets and wall decoration.
Ciao Bella! is a new lifestyle fashion brand designed to appeal to girls and youthful women of all ages. The characters are sophisticated and sexy, playful and deliciously retro. They are walking their adorable pup in Central Park, shopping in NYC or walking the streets of Paris, for example, always in style with a slight smile. Yersin thinks the products that would benefit from featuring the girls of Ciao Bella! are as varied as designer handbags, paper goods, sleepwear, clothing, beauty & makeup products, watches, jewellery, perfume and stationery.??
