Founded in April 09, Lemon Ribbon is using BLE to showcase its designs and build new contacts in the industry.
Lemon Ribbon (stand 581) is a print and design studio based in Hampshire owned by Melanie Bullock, design director and Edward Weale business director.
The firm developed out of Bullock’s career within childrenswear fashion and design. Bullock studied Fashion Design and Marketing at the University of East London, and her final collection was featured in The Guardian.
In her early career, Bullock designed for brands including Marks and Spencer, J Sainsbury's, and Debenhams, as well as collaborating on numerous International licensing projects including Disney Europe, Forever Friends and The Royal Ballet.
Bullock says: “I received such an overwhelming response from clients and industry insiders about my graphics that I decided to branch out into art and design licensing. At Lemon Ribbon our aim is to captivate everyone with our 'little packages of Imagination'.”
To date the firm’s portfolio is made up of three properties: Jasmine Bunn, Retro Garden and the Lemon Ribbon Studio.
Jasmine Bunn is a fashionable bunny who lives the life of the modern day girl. Her original, school days and home and garden themes target females of all ages.
Retro Garden is a country kitchen-themed print collection inspired from 1960's ceramics and homeware products. With the focus moving towards comfort based around the home and family, the designs combine artworks with modern countryside aspirational living.
Lemon Ribbon’s ethos is 'creating little packages of imagination'. At the studio the team creates contemporary graphics, cute characters and design focused print concepts as well as the ability to work with clients in producing commissioned signature ranges.
So far Lemon Ribbon has signed deals within the greeting cards and apparel categories and is in discussion with a number of gift and clothing manufacturers.
Weale explains: “We have found that our background in fashion and product development means that we fully understand the nature of product placement and have worked closely with our clients in developing designs that truly sell the product.”
The firm is now looking to develop its properties further into the gift, stationery, apparel and home sectors bringing together its design-led focus with manufacturers and retailers of high quality consumer products. BLE is the next step in achieving this aim.
Weale continues: “Having spoken to a number of key players within the licensing world as well as reading reviews of the show, we feel it offers us the best opportunity to showcase Lemon Ribbon, to introduce us to the wider licensing world as well as giving us the opportunity to meet and speak to lots of potential new licensees.
“We hope it will benefit the company in terms of giving us strong feedback on the licensing potential of our design style and properties, as well as allowing us to broaden our client database, assess our competitors and develop our understanding of the licensing and retail trends in the current market.
"We are looking to build on our client base, establish a number of interested parties for our properties and potentially sign a deal or two.”
Lemon Ribbon’s stand will be showcasing the three properties, with a colourful mural as a backdrop and product samples for our properties as well as displaying new designs specifically produced for the show.

The firm is also planning to exhibit at Indigo in Paris in September 2009 and February 2010. and at Surtex, New York in May 2010 to showcase its art and design to the US licensing market.
