We find out more about the design-led gift company's BLE plans.
Following a successful 2011 Spring Fair, Two Little Boys was approached by a number of companies to discuss the possibility of licensing its range of I'm Going To… notebooks.
This led founder, Sarah Watts to sign up for Brand Licensing Europe this year to further explore her options. She tells Licensing.biz: "We will be showing our best selling and Gift of The Year (GOTY) shortlisted range of I'm Going To… designs and our stunning photographic led 'I Can Spot…' range of designs to keep children happy, also shortlisted in GOTY awards.
"In addition, we will be launching an entirely new, fresh range of designs aimed at the elusive teenage gift market; the How to… For The Domestically Inept set of instructions in the style of airline safety guidelines are versatile, cool and appealing for a wide range of products from mugs to tea towels to notebooks and laundry bags."
All 12 of the designs will be on show at BLE, with titles including How to Make a Cup of Coffee; How to Clean The Loo; How to Change The Duvet; How to Wake Up On Time; How to Bake a Potato; How to Cram for an Exam; How to Tidy Your Bedside Table and How to Boil an Egg.
Watts explains her decision to exhibit at the show: "We know that the How to… range of products are a winner, with an enormous appeal to a large unfilled market. We do not have the resources (and possibly imagination) to realise their potential and we know that the right people will be at BLE who will see the applications of the designs and bring them to life into a bigger marketplace than we can reach within our current predominately stationery offering."
Two Little Boys was founded in 2002 by Watts, a motor of three. She says she had a 'rather lovely photograph' of her twin sons sitting on the edge of a pool in Dorset, a few ideas for products and little else.
From there, she launched the first few lines and now the firm sells over 100 individual design-led gifts. Two Little Boys has been shortlisted, highly commended or winners of the Gift of the Year Awards six times, is currently shortlisted for a Practical Parenting Award, as well as reaching the final round of judging for Take a View - Landscape Photographer of The Year.
The photography portfolio currently consists of 25,000 shots, with which the company is launching a new range of greetings cards and is currently working on a 'look book' of everything that may be of interest to licensing companies for display at the exhibition.
So there will be a wide range of brands on offer at Two Little Boys' stand. The firm is hoping the show will help build contacts too. Watts offers: "We want to meet the right people, sign some deals and get our products out there on every conceivable medium possible.
"The I'm Going To… notebooks that we already produce can be expanded to other mediums and although we already produce a square, spiral bound notebook, we would love to investigate other stationery based items that we have not explored ourselves."
The company is hoping to move into a wide range of licensed sectors including homewares, stationery and even books. Watts concludes: "We love working on these designs and have many more just ready to be storyboarded and created."
