Samantha Loveday
Sep 9
From art and design-led brands such as Bang on the Door and Brit Chicks, through to the NBA and MotoGP...
Absolutely Cuckoo
Stand 219
London-based character factory and animation studio Absolutely Cuckoo returns for its second year at Brand Licensing Europe. The firm creates commercial characters for mobile, licensing, advertising and TV.
Properties on the stand will include The Greetlings, developed for the tween/teen and young adult market as a method of sending warm, fuzzy messages and gifts, plus Bork, a dirty yet loveable creature who lives to fart.
Felt Nice, Ickle Tickle, Go with the Flo and Love & Stuff will also be on display.
Bang on the Door
Stand 255
Now represented by ten international agents across the world, BOTD has an extensive portfolio of over 750 characters, licensees and retailers. New UK licensees on board include Mad Catz (gaming accessories), Mindscape (Nintendo games), Hallmark (greeting cards), Danilo (calendars) and Pyramid Posters (posters and badges).
Brand Champions
Stand 304
Brand Champions operates as a brand owner, product developer and licensor for its own properties Brit Chicks and Some Girls. In addition to this, the company is the UK licensing agent for Secret Wings.
Fashion inspired brand Brit Chicks is aimed at seven to 12 year-olds and features a group of girls called Eva, Honey and Mica. A 2D animation series of 52x11-minute episodes is also planned, with a lead broadcaster and distributor due to be announced at Olympia.
Meanwhile, Secret Wings is aimed at younger girls, aged four to six. New product lines for both properties will be revealed at the show.
Dissero Brands
Stand 340
Dissero Brands owns 'Rachael Hale - the world's most lovable animals' photographic brand. It currently boasts licence agreements in over 60 countries and 145 licensees.
The firm will launch a new photographic brand targeting boys at the show, featuring a line-up of larger than life animal characters.
Dorna Sports
Stand 330
Dorna has been the exclusive holder of all the commercial and TV rights for the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (MotoGP) since 1992. Currently there are 50 active MotoGP licensees, producing over 650 products worldwide. The range covers product categories from apparel to publishin, interactive games to stationery and technical equipment to toys and games.
Some of the most recent agreements include Nolan (for a line of MotoGP helmets); Capcom (video games); Mondo (toy scooters, skate boards, inflatables, roller skates, etc); Smoby (toys); and Yamaha (scooters). Dorna will also have the current world champion's motorbike on the stand.
Golden Balls
Stand 246
Golden Balls is the alternative sports brand for young, sporty guys and girls. Since last year's show, it has licensed its name to Endemol for the merchandise and the hit ITV game show (which is hosted by comedian Jasper Carrott). The company will also be working with the Prostrate Cancer Charity, hoping to help raise awareness and funds.
NBA
Stand 622
Back in London in October as part of NBA Europe Live (presented by EA Sports), the NBA offers a large array of products throughout Europe including apparel, shoes, sporting goods, electronic games, school supplies, bags and home furnishings. New items from various categories will be on the stand.
Plain Lazy
Stand 510
New products available from this relaxed lifestyle brand include the Crash Pad (a chair which turns into a bed), extra large indoor and outdoor beanbags, bedding, skateboards and toiletries. Further expansion of the brand is in progress for the UK, Europe and North America.
Renault Merchandising
Stand 660
The firm grants licences in the name of Renault Brands Group; Renault, Renault F1, Renault Sport, Alpine and Dacia. It will be showing a range of products from categories including toys, apparel and accessories.
Smiley Licensing
Stand 335
Smiley will be showing a wide range of products from its raft of licensees at the show. The billion dollar brand has hundreds of licensing partners and is registered in over 100 countries for 25 types of goods and services.
The latest Smiley success was the launch of the Smileyworld brand for teenagers at 350 Jennyfer stores across Europe. The line includes t-shirts, sweat shirts and underwear and underlines the popularity of the brand in the apparel sector (it also has a presence in major chains C&A, Tammy, Oviesse and Stradivarius among others).
A new Smiley photo gallery will be on display at Olympia. The style guide is based on an image bank of land art photos and will be used on books, calendars, greeting cards, stationery and gifts.
Wiley
Stand 620
Wiley is the number one 'how to' publisher in the UK, with its portfolio of best selling brands including For Dummies, Cliffs Notes, Frommer's and How to Cook Everything among others.
A number of new For Dummies products will be introduced to the European market for the first time at the show. Now with more than 150 million books in print, For Dummies products cover such topics as managing finances, running a business, maximising software, planning a trip, getting healthy, training a dog and programming code.
Frommer's, meanwhile, is the number one travel brand in North America, with its portfolio boasting over 350 guidebooks and two websites, while Cliff Notes are still the most widely recognised study guides in use today.
