MY LIFE IN LICENSING: Lorne Bloch

Bloch tells Licensing.biz about his first job at MGM Consumer Products, McDonalds and David Hasselhoff...

Name:
Lorne Bloch

Time spent in licensing industry:
Six years

First job in licensing:
Retail coordinator, MGM Consumer Products

What were your responsibilities?
Securing retail placement and promotions for Pink Panther, Legally Blonde and other vault properties.

Current job in licensing:
Licensing director, Mighty Fine.

What are your responsibilities?
Licence acquisition, account management, development of new revenue streams for our current licences and, of course, keeping our licensors happy at all times and accepting LIMA Awards on behalf of the company.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
Working for a company I love, in an industry that keeps every day challenging and rewarding. In addition to keeping David Hasselhoff relevant to the Junior customer.

What is the best licence you have worked on so far in your career?
On the licensor side, working with McDonalds. The program afforded me the opportunity to discuss licensing strategy with marketing executives at one of the world's largest global brands, as well as the opportunity to travel to Shanghai and Tokyo to present global strategy with agents and manufacturers. Who knew we would be able to get retro Happy Meal boxes into Lisa Kline?

What licence would you most like to have in your portfolio?
I enjoy the roster of licences we currently have. The fun part is working with our clients everyday to come up with new means of generating revenue and keeping properties relevant to the customer.

If you could choose your dream job in licensing, what would it be and why?
Working as the licensing executive for Mighty Fine in our new satellite office in Tahiti.

What's the best thing about working in the licensing business?
The people. The support of the licensing community is amazing and every day conversations bring new insight, new ideas and new visions for growth.
