Underground Toys grabs international distribution for BBC's successful Doctor Who spin off series.
BBC Worldwide has signed up Underground Toys as the licensee for Torchwood in the UK and North America.
The deal will see Underground Toys take on the international distribution of existing Torchwood product and the manufacturing of new lines including mugs, key chains, voice key chains, plastic prop replica items, playing cards and resin busts for the UK and US markets.
In the US, action figures and Minimates are also included in the deal. Product will begin rolling out in both territories this summer.
Torchwood is currently airing on BBC2 in the UK, pulling in viewers of around 3.3 million with a first episode peak of 4.22 million. In the US, it is the most successful series ever to air on BBC America.
"We're thrilled to embark on this project with Underground Toys," said Anna Hewitt, head of international licensing at BBC Worldwide. "The partnership follows the success of the Doctor Who range, which Underground Toys distributes in North America, and we're looking to tap into the amazing TV success on both sides of the pond to attract toy sales across a range of premium product."
