Start Licensing begins search for partners in key categories as hype builds for new-look Sky One show.

With only a number of weeks until the next generation of Gladiators is broadcast on Sky One, Start Licensing says it's “optimistic” it can develop deals within the toys, publishing and apparel sectors based on the reinvention of the 90s TV hit.

The agency said the Gladiators property has “a lot of potential”, targeting a cross generational audience and combining the themes of action and fantasy.

Ian Downes, managing director, exclusively told Licensing.biz: “Gladiators is a well presented, well thought out franchise, which worked extremely well when it was initially launched.

“People have started bucking the trend and approaching us directly, which is quite refreshing and we are hoping our plans move quite rapidly.”

Meanwhile, Sky One, which controls the licensing rights, has unveiled the 12 new gladiators - Atlas, Battleaxe, Destroyer, Enigma, Ice, Inferno, Oblivion, Panther, Predator, Spartan, Tempest and Tornado - which  the 32 contenders will face as they compete for £50,000 prize money.
