Radio controlled Tarantula wins top novelty category at Gift of the Year awards.

The Natural History Museum has further cemented its place in the licensing business, with its radio-controlled Tarantula scooping the Hot Novelty category at the 2008 Gift of the Year awards, sponsored by the Giftware Association.

Licensed by Wow Stuff, the tarantula is based on the bird eating goliath tarantula and is the lead product in a new and innovative line of branded toys and gifts for the Natural History Museum.

Designed in conjunction with the scientists at the museum, the gift has proven to be very popular. Wow Stuff is now looking to extend the range, with new items rolling out this autumn on the High Street, showcased by in-store TVs in a number of large retailers.

"This is an outstanding product and we are delighted to be working with the museum on the new range," said Richard North, MD of Wow Stuff. "The museum is an excellent brand and the help that we get from the scientists is invaluable in ensuring accuracy and giving consumers confidence that the products are authentic.

"We go from strength to strength."
