First foray into sport for repair manual firm after deal with CPLG.
Haynes Publishing and the RFU are teaming up to create the England Rugby Manual, the official RFU guide to playing the game.
The deal was brokered by CPLG Sport and is the first foray into the sector for Haynes, which is best known for its collection of routine maintenance and repair manuals.
The manual will be published to coincide with the Investec Challenge Series in November. Haynes will be applying its step by step approach of stripping the game down to its essentials and re-assembling it with detailed illustrations.
"This fantastic collaboration between RFU, CPS and Haynes has presented a textbook licensing case study," said Iain Wakefield of Haynes Publishing. "As you can imagine, the Manual is a complex and very detailed project, which requires absolute commitment from all concerned.
"The team at Haynes could not have asked for more from the RFU and CPS. In return, we are confident of delivering another classic Haynes manual, which will be enjoyed by players and fans for many years to come."
Haynes has sold some 150 million Manuals throughout the world. Last year over one million manuals were sold in the UK alone and they have been translated into 15 languages.
Jane Barron, licensing and marketing manager at the RFU, added: "Haynes Manuals have a strong male-biased publishing heritage and the association with England Rugby works well. The book is aimed at the general supporter to level two players and gives a good insight into playing or supporting the game.
"This is only the start of our licensing relationship and in the future we hope to bring out more innovative products."
