Expanded children's media conference to kick off next week.

Those execs working within the children's media and entertainment industries will be heading up to Sheffield next week for this year's Showcomotion event.

Running between July 2nd and 4th, this year's get together has been extended to include all aspects of children's entertainment from TV to Toycos, from interactive media to radio, from games to licensing and merchandising.

The opening keynote will be given by Ed Vaizey MP, the Shadow Minister for Culture and Broadcasting. He will be speaking on the Wednesday evening from 7pm.

Anna Home, the chair of Showcomotion, said: "Broadcasting is a key part of Ed Vaizey's remit. With the resurgent fortunes of the Conservative Party, this keynote represents a valuable and timely opportunity to hear how current policital thinking is likely to impact on our industry and the lives of young people."

Other conference sessions running across Thursday and Friday will cover such topics as research, the role of the audience in the creative process, virtual worlds for kids, the highs and lows of co-production, short form shows, innovation in online video, platforms vs brands and an innovation showcase.

Meanwhile, 'Licensed to Thrill' will take place on Thursday July 3rd, asking is it only terrestrial broadcast that can create a licensing hit?

Moderated by Richard Hollis, head of UK licensing at BBC Worldwide, speakers will be Alan Fenwick (VP, Cartoon Network Enterprises); Helen Howells (global brand director, Target); Debbie Macdonald (programming director, Nickelodeon UK); Fiona Macmillan (children's colour publisher, Random House); and Jane Rumble (senior associate at Ofcom).

The session is being produced by Oliver Ellis, director of children's and family programming at Target Entertainment.
