Push into Japanese market for Smileyworld continues at the Licensing Asia show.

After enjoying a successful start to its licensing campaign in Japan over the past year, Smileyworld is now focusing on Tokyo.

The Smiley Company, which owns and licences the Smileyworld image library of 1,400 icons based on the original Smiley logo, will be exhibiting at Licensing Asia which takes place from November 12th to 14th at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre. Smiley is on stand L-46.

The firm's presence in Tokyo is reinforcing a push into the Japanese market that has seen a number of licence awards and the appointment of an agent - Tact Communications - to deal with the growing interest in Smileyworld product.

Licensees in the territory include Sony Entertainment Services (digital content), Power Bom Co (t-shirts), Sakamoto (stationery), Caitac Family (pyjamas and underwear), Sukeno (socks and tights), Nic Co (PVC rubber products), Best Co (confectionery), Sakamoto (mobile phone straps) and IRI Commerce and Technology (handset user interfaces).

"Japan is a market that is highly receptive to the Smileyworld message of social expression, as our success so far indicates," said Nicolas Loufrani, CEO of the Smiley Company. "We are looking forward to meeting licensees, both established and potential, in Tokyo as Smileyworld expands its presence in Asia in general and Japan in particular."
