
Entertainment retailer confident it can increase its sales within artist merchandise and licensed items.
With the retreat of Woolworths from the High Street, there is now a huge opportunity for non-traditional retailers of licensed product to increase their share of the market - and HMV is already making great strides.
Entertainment product buyer Fran Jones told Licensing.biz that she would like to see HMV become the "ultimate destination for licensed product".
Currently around five to six per cent of HMV's sales are made up mainly of 'entertainment' artist merchandising and licensed product - a figure the chain firmly believes is set to grow.
However, Jones knows they will have to work for those former Woolworths customers: "The key thing is we have to earn this custom and to work for it - we can't presume it will come our way just because we are one of the last entertainment specialists still trading on the High Street and online."
