Start-up games development firm to concentrate on casual and licensed titles.

A new video games company is aiming to raise the bar for the design and production of high quality casual games.

Beanbag Studios has been founded by games industry veterans Steve Bergenholtz and Gary Corriveau, who, between them, have 30 years of development experience.

Bergenholtz founded Sandbox Studios in 1998, where a team of almost 70 staff developed a number of titles for console and handheld devices including Shrek: The Emperor's New Groove, Disney's Dinosaur, ESPN NHL Hockey, Matchbox Emergency Patrol and a collection of other games based on well-known properties from Disney, Dreamworks and Mattel.

Based in Texas and Ontario, Beanbag has acquired a selection of global video game licences and has four games in production for release this year.

"Our developers are working with several high profile properties, which will allow us to hit the ground running with a series of impressive launch games," said Bergenholtz. "We're looking forward to releasing a range of first-rate titles for the growing number of casual game fans around the world."
