Disney is top global licensor

Warner Bros, Marvel and Nickelodeon also named in License Global's annual top 100 rundown of the key players.

Disney Consumer Products has once again been named number one in License Global's annual run down of the top 100 licensors in the world.

Properties such as Hannah Montana (pictured), Disney Fairies, Disney Princess and Disney Pixar's Cars all experienced strong growth, helping the company to some $30 billion in retail sales.

Second in the listing was Iconix Brand Group ($6.5 billion in retail sales), with key sales drivers in 2008 including its direct to retail licences.

Warner Brothers Consumer Products ($6 billion) - boosted by the incredible performance of The Dark Knight - Marvel Entertainment ($5.7 billion) and Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products ($5.5 billion) made up the top five.

Other notable names in the run down included Sanrio (eight), General Motors (11), Mattel Brands Consumer Products (13), Hit Entertainment (17), BBC Worldwide (21), Fox L&M (22), Cartoon Network Enterprises (23), Chorion (32), Cookie Jar Consumer Products (36), Coca-Cola (43), Mars Retail Group (66) and V&A Enterprises (82).

In addition, License Global also named the top 20 licensing agents, with IMG coming out on top. Other notable entries included Beanstalk Group (four), The Licensing Company (five) and CPLG (eight).

It's interesting to note that,
"WWE will support retail sell-in and sell-through and will maintain retail shelf space through promotional programs with key retail partners Walmart in the U.S., Woolworth and Tesco in the U.K."
