HAVE YOUR SAY: How hard will England licensees be hit next summer?

What will the cost be to Euro 2008 licensees and retailers after England's failure to qualify?
The FA said yesterday that it estimated it will miss out on £10 million of potential income from being unable to sell licensing and merchandising rights for Euro 2008 following England's failure to qualify on Wednesday night.
But what will the cost be for those UK firms which have already signed up to be official licensees for the tournament?
How likely is it that retailers will now want to stock huge amounts of official England merchandise in the summer?
NPD Licence Tracker reported last October that sports names reached their highest sales level thanks to the World Cup in 2006, with even girls taking an interest - sports grew by 15 per cent with that group.
If England did well in the tournament, there was a chance for official licensees to really rake in the cash.
Licensing.biz wants to hear what you think. Do you think the industry will suffer from England's absence from the tournament?
Or do you believe that profits in other territories whose national teams are in the competition will make up for this?

From a licensing and retail point of view this may be a positive thing to happen for other Sports licensors - there are a vast number of opporunities out there that don't involve the FA or Enlgand Football. Licensees and retailers could spread their risk by looking at other sports properties such as the England Rugby, Premier Rugby, ECB, F1, Moto GP etc

Can't see how it can be a positive for licensors and retailers. England's participation in a major tournament always gives a huge boost to the economy as a whole. It will, however, save many town centres from being smashed when up because they won't be crashing out on penalties. Licensing's loss is the insurance industry's gain.

Warner Bros must be gutted - I think they're the official licensing agent for UEFA 2008. I wonder if they'll change any plans they had already made for the UK?
