Upcoming film release sparks flurry of activity around Fox brand, including first toy deal.

20th Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (in conjunction with Bagdasarian Productions) is lining up a major merchandising push for family property, Alvin and the Chipmunks, with the sequel due to hit cinemas in time for Christmas.

Fox Licensing has signed Jakks Pacific as its toy partner, with the firm creating a line of plush, figures, dolls, play-sets and novelty toys.

In addion, JS Karaoke will develop a range of karaoke products, which will allow fans to 'Alvinise' their voice.

The merchandising programme was unofficially kicked off this year through an agreement with Madame Tussaud's, which introduced the first wax figures based on animated characters to the franchise's Las Vegas museum.

"Janice and I approach The Chipmunks licensing programme as we do their films," said Ross Bagdasarian Jr, CEO of Bagdasarian Productions. "Our hope is to create unique product that is tailored to The Chipmunks and The Chipettes."

I am disappointed at the lack of availability of the Jeanette and Eleanore Chipette plush toys. All I ever see is the Brittany doll. Considering the content of the movie and the lessons it teaches, it seems hypocritical to only make the Brittany doll available.

There should be sets of plastic action figures; featuring the New and classic versions of: The Chipmunks and Chipettes! Plush may be nice; yet in real world conditions not practical with some kids. Poseable figures in the same scale as the Happy Meal versions can work nicely. Ad accessories, vehicles and play sets. Example: Look at the hello Kitty line of toys!
