London 2012 stamp deal licked with Royal Mail

Series of themed stamps to be issued over the next three years.

The London Organising Committe of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has secured a deal with the Royal Mail which will see a series of London 2010 themed stamps issued over the next three years.

The first set of ten first class stamps will be issued on October 22nd, with illustrations featuring Olympic and Paralympic sports.

This will be followed with further issues of sports stamps in 2010 and 2011. First day covers, presentation packs and other commemorative products will also be available.

"Royal Mail has commissioned some of Britain's most exciting artists and illustrators to create three sets of stamps which will highlight both the sporting and cultural significance of this incredible event," said Julietta Edgar, head of special stamps at Royal Mail.

Nice but what about their consumer marketing?

This is great....but the consumer promotion of their collectible/commissioned stamps is rubbish... Why don't they issue the little books of the commissioned stamps and market them in "other" outlets, such as Claires Accessories, Costa Coffee, dare I say it McDonalds...? Different outlets = different demographic = increased market awareness & share?

Royal Mail has the potential to be seen as one of the most prominent commissioners of public art... come on branding people, help them.... (and their poor revenue streams...)!
