HAVE YOUR SAY: What will be the biggest licence of 2008?HAVE YOUR SAY: What will be the biggest licence of 2008?

Licensing.biz wants to hear your thoughts on this Friday's Have Your Say topic.

This year has been another bumper one for the UK licensing industry - with NPD's License Tracker reporting in October that it was worth £2.4 billion in the 12 months to June 2007.

And 2008 is already shaping up to be just as good - but what do you think will be some of the best performing licences across the year?

Will newcomers such as BBC's In The Night Garden, Cartoon Network's Ben 10 and Numberjacks from Granada continue to grow and dominate their relevant sectors?

Or will new, revamped brands like Chorion's The Mr Men Show make an impact? Paddington, Power Rangers and Sonic the Hedgehog are all celebrating milestone anniversaries, too.

Nickelodeon

Will art and design-based brands push even further into the mainstream, like the Science Museum has done in 2007?

And will summer 2008 see yet another round of big event movies take over retail, especially with Euro 2008 now a distant memory for England?

We want to hear what you think.

I think properties like In the Night Garden will continue to perform due its extensive marketing efforts behind it. What will also be a property worth reckoning is Little Princess - with a 20 year old publishing heritage, a firm favourite with every 3-5 year old girl (and boy), the continuous support from Milkshake Channel and the consumer products programme launching at retail early 2008, this is certainly a pre-school property that needs to be on peoples radar!

“A huge year”

I think 2008 is going to be massive year for the industry. I think summer will again be dominated by some big films, especially now England are not going to be in the Euro football tournament. What would be good to see though is a quality property which doesn't have huge marketing budgets behind it sneak onto the mainstream radar.

I hope The Mr Men Show will have a big impact. Mr Men products have started to appear for a while now on trend-oriented products and are really appealing to me. These characters have a real stylish look and come from publishing, which I think is kind of the aristocracy of licensing. Good luck to Paddington as well.

“Wall E”

There's a lot of talk about Wall E from Disney/Pixar but for me it doesn't look like it has the character appeal to make much of an impression. I think Marvel has already used its most appealing characters so neither Iron Man nor Hulk will do it either.
Indiana Jones has untapped potential as a licence though and certainly Harrison Ford is old enough to endorse a range of stairlifts and personal hygiene products.

The brilliant Calon property Hana's Helpline will be huge in 08, with the lanch of the books in Jan 08 and the toys in autumn 008, its fun, caring and every child willb comforted watching it.

“Lego to take off !”

I think Lego´s comeback as the dominant brand for kids and parents will make their licensing program blossom in 2008 and beyond. The beauty if this brand and the sub-brands is that its here to stay and worth investing in.

No question, it's a one horse race with High School Musical racing past the winning post.

“Gormiti ?”

based on current phenomenal success in Italy and its spreading out in Europe (toys, TV series), Gormiti could be the license of the year in Europe...

No question in my mind, Hannah Montana. No brand has a broader base, movies, TV and live performances.

While it won't be the biggest license of 2008, one property generating a ton of buzz and interest is The U.S. Poker Tour. With interest swirling of the brand being licensed in Asia and Europe, there seems to be quite a bit of traffic visiting their booth this morning.
