Best selling book series to be turned into film by Fox and a video game by Activision.
20th Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising is beginning to build the licensing drive for Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief - appointing Activision as its video games partner.
Based on the first title in Rick Riordan's best selling book series, the film is set in a modern world where the 12 gods of Mount Olympus are alive. Percy Jackson, the teenage son of Poseidon, is suspected by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt, the universe's most powerful weapon. He must prove his innocence, save his mother and avoid a war among the gods.
The book series has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for more than 125 weeks, and the movie adaptation has been named as one to watch for 2010.
"Chris Columbus has made a great film that is very true to the fantastic stories in the book series," said Gary Rosenfeld, senior VP of new media licensing for Fox. "We needed a partner that could take this vision and translate it into a great and, most importantly, fun game for all the fans. Activision has certainly delivered."
The Nintendo DS game will arrive in February to coincide with the movie release.
