
Stunning performance for third successive Christmas for entertainment chain.
HMV Group has revealed its sales performance for the five-week Christmas period, showing it experienced record trading for the third successive year.
HMV UK saw total sales growth of 14.6 per cent, driven by the excellent performance of ex-Zavvi and temporary Christmas stores.
HMV UK and Ireland like for like sales were up 2.2 per cent, building on strong comparatives from the previous Christmas, giving two-year like for like growth of 5.3 per cent.
Sales of technology and related products increased 50 per cent year on year, while HMV UK shifted over 27 million CDs, DVDs and games over the Christmas period.
The performance of HMV.com was also solid, with double digit sales growth.
As a group, the five-week period saw sales rise 6.7 per cent, although like for likes were down 1.2 per cent.
"As we approach the final part of our three-year plan to transform the group, it is pleasing to report that HMV UK has enjoyed record trading for a third successive Christmas," said chief executive Simon Fox. "Consequently, we remain confident in the outlook for the group for the current financial year."
