WWE reveals film plan

Firm to self-distribute and market its upcoming slate of nine films.

WWE Studios will self-distribute and market its slate of movies.

The first film to be released will be drama Brother's Keeper (working title) this summer starring Danny Glover and WWE Superstar John Cena. Samuel Goldwyn Films will be WWE Studios' theatrical distribution partner in the US, while Vivendi Entertainment will be its domestic DVD distribution partner.

WWE is slated to produce and release nine films through 2012. All will feature well-known actors and actresses in lead roles, supported by WWE Superstars. Upcoming projects will include a wide range of genres such as family friendly comedies, dramas and thrillers.

"The self distribution model will allow WWE to maximise marketing efforts and create special event experiences at select theatres nationwide," said Mike Pavone, executive VP of WWE Studios.

International DVD distribution will be handled by WWE's existing TV and video partners worldwide.
