CITV commissions new children’s property, taking inspiration from 1960’s live action Batman.

CITV has added a new programme to its portfolio, commissioning children’s property Captain Mack.

Aimed at four to six year-olds, Captain Mack is a 52x11-minute show full of bright colours, larger than life characters, live action and CGI animation. It follows the adventures of its eponymous Sky Captain who performs daring deeds and flies heroic missions. It takes inspiration from the live action Batman shows from the 1960s and is due to air this spring.

Fireback Entertainment controls worldwide rights and is in final negotiations to secure worldwide TV and video distribution. Its existing children’s IP includes Tom & Vicky – also licensed to CITV – and The Treacle People and The Fourth King under licence to Channel 4.

“We saw a clear gap in the market for a rocket-riding, action hero for children aged four to six and a chance to offer youngsters an exciting champion who ‘saves the day’ without the need for bad guys or violence,” said John Bullivant, MD at Firebank. “That’s what Captain Mack delivers. It’s great to be working with CITV on our first full children’s commission.”

Emma Tennant, controller of ITV3 and CITV, added: “We are delighted to welcome one of the liveliest and most entertaining characters to CITV as part of our 2008 line-up.”
