BBC Worldwide Americas signs licence deal with Chilean firms to produce local version of the UK comedy series.

The agreement between BBCWW Americas, Canal 13 and Chilecorto covers series one and two and the end-of-season specials, according to C21 Media.

It is the first Latin American format deal for the comedy, which is also currently in production in France, Germany and the US, where the Emmy-winning Steve Carell-starring version has just entered syndication.

Carmen Gloria Lopez, head of programming at Canal 13 said: "From watching The Office we realised very quickly that the working day in Chile is actually very similar to office life in the UK and America.

BULLDOG

Our production with Chilecorto will show you we have more in common than you might think."

Nimrod Amitai, series executive producer from Chilecorto, said his objective is "to explore the very worst of our Chilean society, and make the audience laugh about it."

BBCWW Americas will advise on the production and development of the Chilean version, which Canal 13 plans to premiere in May.
