Third instalment in the vampire saga notches up almost $70m in opening weekend.
Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has topped the box office in the US, earning $68.5 million in its opening weekend.
The film - the third instalment in the hit franchise - knocked Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 3 from the top of the listing, breaking the record for a Wednesday opening in the process, says Box Office Mojo.
Twilight Eclipse opens across the UK from this Friday (July 9th).
M Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender was at number two with $40.7m in its first weekend, while Toy Story 3 fell to third. However, the Disney-Pixar film has taken around $289 million since opening in the US on June 18th.
It releases in the UK on July 23rd.
