US: Smurfs celebrate half a century

New collection of bags and accessories roll out to kick start the 50th birthday party.
It's the 50th anniversary of The Smurfs this year, and Paramount Licensing and property owner Lafig Belgium have kicked off the celebrations, signing a deal with Animations for a new line of bags and accessories.
As reported by Playthings, Animations will produce a co-ordinated collection of Smurfs products including fashion bags, backpacks, luggage, small leather goods, back to school and social stationery.
They will hit US stores this autumn.
"The Smurfs are one of the most recognised character icons in the world and Accessory Network Group is proud to have this opportunity to combine our creative expertise in design and manufacturing with the high profile Smurfs brand name," said Morris Chehebar, Animation's president.
