24-hour Noggin channel snaps up Contender pre-school property for broadcast.

Hit pre-school series Peppa Pig has chosen a home in the US, with the 24-hour Noggin channel snapping up the property.

The station (which is part of Nickelodeon) has acquired the US broadcast rights to the first series of Peppa Pig - 52 episodes - with an option on all future series and one off specials. The deal was secured by global rights owner Entertainment One.

"The connect-learning approach offered by Noggin provided us with the perfect platform on which to showcase Peppa Pig to US audiences," said E1 president Patrice Theroux.

"We are excited to work with the team at Noggin to replicate the success for Peppa Pig that we have already achieved in the UK and overseas."

Peppa Pig was first broadcast in the UK on Five in June 2004, followed by Nick Jr in July. It is consistently one of the highest rated shows on Five's Milkshake strand and Nick Jr.

The brand now generates in excess of £25m in retail sales per annum in the UK, boosted by an ever growing portfolio of over 35 UK licensees covering toys, books, magazines, clothing, footwear, accessories, outdoor toys, games and DVDs.

It's good to see a homegrown property doing so well overseas, and particularly in the US where it is very difficult to get a look in at the best of times.
