Character World's Mark Schweiger has been shortlisted for a top regional award.

The FD of the popular Manchester-based licensee is in the running for the North West Financial Director of the Year Award.

The accolades have been set up by financial recruitment specialists Sharp Consultancy, with support from Barclays Corporate, Grant Thornton and DWF LLP. They aim to highlight the importance the FD role brings to the success of North West businesses.

The winners will be revealed at a special event in February.

Judges highlighted Schweiger's role in securing RBS funding and negotiating Character World's recent MBO, which valued the firm at £20 million. The company also secured a place in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table in 2010.

"It's a real honour to be shortlisted for this award," said Schweiger. "It's taken careful financial management to ensure Character World achieves its plans for growth. Despite a difficult climate, we've achieved some exciting contract wins and have big plans for the year ahead."
