Anime series rolls out on Cartoon Network in States after success in Canada and Japan.

It's already scored well in Japan and in Canada, and now Nelvana is hoping that its new anime property Bakugan will win over the States too.

The series premieres on Cartoon Network US on Sunday February 24th. It follows the adventures of Dan and his fellow Battle Brawlers as they try to save the world from destruction.

In addition, Cartoon Network's consumer products division will be handling US licensing and merchandising for the property. This marks the first time that the division has managed a partner's property.

"An action-oriented boys property like Bakugan is a perfect complement to our stable of brands," said Beth Goss, executive VP of Cartoon Network ad sales. "Given our background and expertise, this relationship provides us with a great opportunity to further extend our strength in the boys consumer products landscape."

The story begins with children around the world finding interesting cards with different characters. They create a battle game with them, not knowing the cards correspond to an alternate world where Bakugan warriors have been waging war.

The 'Bakugan' are small spheres from a far off universe that morph into powerful warriors. The name is taken from the Japanese words 'baku' meaning 'to explode' and 'gan' meaning 'sphere'.

Bakugan is produced by Sega Toys, Spin Master, Nelvana, TMS Entertainment, Japan Vistec and Sega Corporation, with animation by Japan Vistec and TMS.
