Official website revealed, plus plans for a 2012 launch.
Fans caught a glimpse of Transformers Universe at this year’s BotCon, the dedicated annual event for fans of the Hasbro brand.
The Transformers MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game) is geared towards accessibility - it will run within a web browser and use the free-to-play model.
Players must ally themselves to the Autobots or the Decepticons and will be able to design their own Transformer.
The Cambridge-based studio Jagex, maker of the Runescape MMO, is working closely with Hasbro on the IP.
Kris Jones, executive producer at Jagex, revealed: “We have spent a lot with Hasbro to make sure that we can give something to the hardcore fans.”
Transformers Universe is the latest in a line of licensed video games, with Transformers: War for Cybertron released last year.
The website is open at transformersuniverse.com
