Former Copyright Promotions Sports man to head up business development drive.

The Football Association has appointed Sean McAuliffe as its new head of business development.

Already well-known to The FA, McAuliffw was formerly commercial director of Copyright Promotions Sport (CPS), which manages the governing body’s wide-ranging licensing and merchandising programme, majoring on the England brand.

Apart from licensing and merchandising, The FA’s business development team is responsible for developing all the organisation’s commercial revenue streams, apart from broadcast and sponsorship rights.

“During my nine years with CPS, I worked across virtually every sport and my knowledge of The FA means I don’t face a steep learning curve,” said McAuliffe.

“The FA has some of sports most valuable brands under its wing, and my challenge is to leverage these to bring increased and new revenue to the organisation, for the benefit of the game at all levels.”

McAuliffe joins The FA’s four-strong commercial management team – his counterparts being Peter Daire (Head of Sponsorship), Simon Freedman (Head of Marketing) and Stuart Turner (Head of Broadcast).

All report into Group Commercial Director Jonathan Hill, who commented: “We have some huge business development opportunities and challenges ahead of us. I’m delighted to have someone of Sean’s calibre on board to take us forward.”
