Firm signs exclusive worldwide master toy licence for new-look show.
Flourishing Jakks Pacific has inked an exclusive worldwide master toy licence with MGM Consumer Products for American Gladiators, currently airing on NBC.
The firm is aiming to launch a line of toys and related products in spring 2009, based on the characters and challenges seen on the show.
The deal was brokered by agent JTMG and includes action figures, accessories, outdoor sports and seasonal products, plus role-play toys all base on the live action series and the classic TV series.
"American Gladiators has all the qualities to make an exciting action figure and sports activity product line," enthused Jennifer Richmond, senior VP of licensing and media at Jakks.
"Jakks plans on capitalising on the brand's high energy, extreme action and electrifying line-up of talent to create a toy line to encapsulate the exciting American Gladiators experience for kids and adults at home."
Travis J Rutherford, executive VP of consumer products and location-based entertainment at MGM, added: "We are excited to introduce a new generation to the action-packed thrills and intense competition of American Gladiators and Jakks Pacific is the perfect partner to bring all the glory of the Gladiators to the toy aisle."

Awesome! I cannot wait for the series to start again in the UK. I was hooked when I was younger and I have no doubt I'll be hooked this time round too. And I'm 35.
The only downside is Jet not being in it.

And Lightning. I liked her.
Ian Wright is hosting the UK version isn't he? I hope he'll be bringing back the 'awooga' catchphrase of John Fashanu's.
