MY LIFE IN LICENSING: Jane Garner

The joint director of specialist licensing and broadcast PR agency Kilogrammedia takes her place in the hotseat.

Jane Garner likens the licensing industry to the Hotel California - 'You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave' - and, having been in the business for some 14 years, she's well placed to make that comment.

Other interesting facts: she rears chickens, would still be at her desk the next day if she won the lottery, and has a great story about a rabbit in a posh restaurant.

Each week, My Life in Licensing will feature a different member of the licensing community, finding out how they started in the business and how their career has progressed since then.

Okay, so I've read the interview, but I can't find mention of the 'rabbit in a posh restaurant' story. But I'm intrigued to know more! Was it an 'eating a rabbit' story? Or was the rabbit a dinner guest?!

Story happened at Brand Licensing a couple of years ago - the rabbit was a dinner guest at The Collection in Kensington as was I. It was a very nice rabbit - an Orange Rex since you're wondering - on the lap of a very pretty girl. I suggested to her that the rabbit would prefer not to be in the resturant as it was too loud and rabbits don't eat Asian Fusion food. She clearly thought I was old and mad as did the management - whole thing escalated into a mobile phone rant to the RSPCA and the removal of the rabbit - always a good look in front of clients. Honestly it's funnier when I tell it :-)

I was there and Jane's right - it was a lot funnier than that! The most amazing part was the look on the rich little madam's face when JG suggested that perhaps the rabbit wasn't happy being in the restaurant. The fact that it was blatantly petrified was apparent to everyone else. However the more wine we consumed the more outraged we became. I think Charlie Day, who was with us, is still in therapy following that evening!
