Multi-year licensing agreement will allow Russian viewers to see a wide range of Disney properties.

Russia’s leading independent media company, CTC has sealed a major deal with The Walt Disney Company’s international TV licensing arm, Disney-ABC International Television.

The deal covers the licensing of features, live action, animated series and made-for-TV movies for the CTC TV network. This is the fourth most watched broadcaster in Russia, with an audience share of 11.3 per cent in its target demographic in 2007.

CTC’s viewers will now be able to watch the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, POTC: At World’s End, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Enchanted, as well as Oscar winner There Will Be Blood and Disney/Pixar films such as Cars and The Incredibles.

CTC and Disney began working together back in 2004. The channel has already successfully shown big name films such as POTC, classic animation and ABC TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. It will now add wide content such as Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zach & Cody, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin to its portfolio.

“This is a significant step for the Disney business in Russia, which will contribute to the further strengthening of the Disney brand,” said Marina Jigalova-Ozkan, MD for The Walt Disney Company CIS. “We’re happy to closely work with CTC and continue to develop our partnership.”
