Warner Bros Pictures and Legendary Pictures confirm May 16th US launch date.
The new Godzilla film will arrive some 16 years after TriStar’s interpretation of the classic ‘50s disaster movie.
Warner Bros Pictures and Legendary Pictures have confirmed a US launch date of May 16th 2014 for Godzilla, which is expected to be presented in 3D.
The 1998 movie had a big licensed consumer products operation behind it, with a host of official toys and other goods hitting the market around the launch of the film.
The new 2014 movie will be directed by Gareth Edwards, director of Monsters. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros Pictures, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co.
The Godzilla franchise includes over 25 films, as well as a host of TV programs, video games, book series and toys featuring the giant lizard.
A statement read: “Legendary, which has been developing the project, and its partner Warner Bros, will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner. The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros.”
