Company making first foray into live action with children's slapstick comedy.
Aardman Animations is moving into the live action category, revealing it is producing a children's slapstick comedy based on the stage show, Men In Coats.
Combining inventive performance art with traditional magic and an array of camera trickery, Men In Coats has already enjoyed sell out stage shows worldwide. It is also an internet hit, with over 33 million hits on YouTube, placing it in the top 100 most viewed clips ever.
"Men in Coats will be a welcome addition to our stable of live action comedy," said incoming CBBC controller Damian Kavanagh. "Aardman's Shaun the Sheep has long charmed and entertained our audience and the physical humour of Men In Coats will follow in Shaun's sure-footed steps."
The show is being produced simultaneously with another live action offering: an invention inspired series fronted by Wallace and Gromit.
BBC1 has commissioned Aardmn to produce six 29 minute episodes of Wallace & Gromit Present: A World of Invention, a light hearted look at real-life contraptions, gadgets and inventions. The series will broadcast in late 2010 and will be presented to international buyers at Mipcom next month.
