BAFTA announces shortlist for 2016 Children's Awards

Cartoon Network has secured the nomination for Channel of the Year, while TV shows including Clangers and The Amazing World of Gumball also made the shortlist.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed who has made it into the shortlist for this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards.

For the second year in a row, Horrible Histories is leading the way thanks to its episode celebrating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

This year, online educational platform TrueTube has received nominations in the Learning: Secondary category for Katie, the Dramacategory for Refugee and also for Channel of the Year.

Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball has received two votes, alongside other shows Hetty Feather and Clangers.

For the fourth year running, Cartoon Network has also secured the nomination for Channel of the Year, plus the channel’s new show We Bare Bears has been shortlisted in the International category.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have received four nominations in this year’s BAFTA Children’s Awards. Our brand portfolio has never been stronger – we really do have an exceptional line-up of stand-out franchises that are resonating with audiences of all ages and across multiple platforms,” said Johanne Broadfield, VP of Cartoon Network Enterprises EMEA.

"Both Gumball and We Bare Bears were hot topics in our meetings at BLE, and the nominations are great news for our licensees as well as the team here.”

Elsewhere, the Feature Film nominations have been given to Zootropolis, The Good Dinosaur, The Jungle Book and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

LEGO Dimensions has also received votes in the Game category, with Ratchet & Clank and Tearaway Unfolded also receiving nominations.

The event, which honours the very best in children’s media, will be held at the Roundhouse in London on November 20th.
