Situated at Burbank Studios, the arena is set to be "cutting edge live-event destination."
The games publisher Blizzard, responsible for such titles as Overwatch, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft will be opening its first dedicated eSports arena in Los Angeles next month, the firm has announced.
The venue has been built from the ground up to host eSports events and will come complete with a variety of sound stages, control rooms and practice facilities for high-level competition and broadcasting. There will also, of course, be a Blizzard retail store.
The venue will open with the Overwatch Contenders Season One Playoffs on the weekend of October 7th, with Hearthstone Championship Tour Summer Championship following on October 13th. Heroes of the Storm and WOW events will follow.
“We’re at a tipping point for eSports and we look forward to helping usher in a new era of competition-based entertainment,” said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. “As we open the doors of Blizzard Arena Los Angeles and welcome fans from around the world, we’re honoured to bring the best in Blizzard eSports to the same stage that some of the biggest names in entertainment have called home.”
