BOYS MONTH: Gibson's unveils new Beano puzzle

Desperate Dan makes special appearance in firm's traditional festive product.

Long standing Beano licensee Gibson's Games has released its 2009 jigsaw puzzle for the brand, featuring specially commissioned festive artwork.

This year, as well as a wide selection of characters from the comic, rights owner DC Thomson has approved the use of Desperate Dan from The Dandy.

Gibson's has produced an annual limited edition Beano puzzle for the last seven years. For 2009, due to consumer and retail demand, there is a higher 1,000-piece count and no longer has a limited run.

"Gibson's are a well trusted licensee and their annual Beano jigsaw puzzle is a cornerstone of our classic Beano and Dandy licensing programme," explained Ian Downes, MD of Start Licensing. "A puzzle of this kind is  a great way of showcasing the comic characters and the great skill of the comic artists."

Rebecca Caine, marketing manager at Gibson's, added: "This year we're delighted to report high demand, so we're no longer keeping this as a limited edition. Our Beano Golden Years jigsaw puzzle, which features covers from classic comics, continues to sell well."
