Famous movie director to launch video games studio with MTV Games.MTV Games has inked an exclusive deal with renowned film and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer to develop and create original video games, marking his first official foray into the gaming world.
Bruckheimer will build a 'game incubation studio' with MTV Games, according to CNN Money, where a team of experienced video game experts, artists and storytellers will seek out and create new IP.
Bruckheimer's film credits include smash hits such as the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Top Gun, The Rock, Flashdance, Armageddon and Crimson Tide. In addition, his TV series have included CSI and its spin-offs CSI Miami and CSI NY, plus With A Trace and Cold Case.
"Video games represent a new and innovative medium for what we've always tried to do, which is tell great stories," Bruckheimer said. "But this medium is unique in that it gives the player control over how those stories unfold."
Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, added: "There's a huge intersection between the fans of Jerry Bruckheimer films, our audience and gamers, making the potential for this partnership to be as explosive as one of his blockbuster films."
The move follows MTV's acquisition of music game developer Harmonix and the publishing of Rock Band. Earlier this year, MTV Networks said that it planned to invest over $500m in developing and distributing video games linked to its entertainment properties around the world over the next two years.
