Show will broadcast on both channel 4 in the UK and the Xbox platform in the US next year.

Channel 4 and Xbox Entertainment Studios have teamed up to produce a new drama series, Humans.

Based on the popular Swedish sci-fi drama, real Humans, the new programme will broadcast on both Channel 4 in the UK and the Xbox platform in the US next year.

Set in a parallel present, Humans will follow the story of a suburban father of three who purchases a second hand robotic servant called a Synth.

“Sharing their life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences, for the Synth, the cuckoo in the nest, is harbouring an extraordinary secret,” teased a statement from the firm.

Channel 4 head of Drama, Piers Wenger, said: “Humans is not only an ingenious thriller, but also asks thought provoking questions about how we live.”

The show will be produced Kudos, the team behind The Hour, Utopia, Broadchurch and The Tunnel.

Wenger added: “I am thrilled to be working once again with the team at Kudos and to be partnering with Xbox to bring this extraordinary and epic series to the screen.

“This is the first co-production commission to benefit from Channel 4’s increased investment in drama and reaffirms our commitment to ambitious, highly original drama series.”

Filming in the UK will begin this summer and casting is still to be announced.
