DC Thomson extends art licensing drive

Comic publisher joins forces with Art You Grew Up With for Beano and Dandy fine art programme.

DC Thomson has agreed a partnership with Art You Grew Up With to create an official Dandy and Beano fine art programme.

A collection of limited editions have launched as part of a special exhibition at Selfridges on London's Oxford Street. The artwork is on sale in the store's book department and features front cover and interior designs, both framed and unframed.

Art You Grew Up With will also market the range to its existing customer network through targeted mailings. It will look to develop relationships with retailers and galleries, while also selling the work online.

The company is looking to develop other products in the near future and is also looking at other DC titles, such as Commando.

"Art You Grew Up With are a specialist and skilled player in the fine art sector, with good links to retail and galleries," said Ian Downes, MD of Start Licensing. "We felt that this was a good time to develop this sector, further building on the existing partnerships we have and giving us access to new outlets for the artwork.

"There is no doubt that The Beano and The Dandy have some of the UK's finest comic artwork in their archive and we look forward to bringing more of this into the public domain. This dovetails well with other licensees such as Wild & Wolf, who are having great success with their range of stationery and gifts based on original comic art."
