Tech execs Safra Catz and Francis A. deSouza join Disney's board of directors.
Walt Disney has added two tech execs to its board of directors in the form of Safra Catz, chief executive of Oracle Corp., and Francis A. deSouza, CEO of biotech firm Illumina Inc.
“Safra A. Catz and Francis deSouza are extremely well-respected in their fields, and each brings an innovative and valuable perspective to our business,” Disney Chairman Bob Iger said in a statement.
Disney has not confirmed whether these new additions will replace retiring members or if the board has simply expanded from 12 to 14.
It makes sense that the company would be looking to bolster its management as the firm prepares to acquire 21st Century Fox in the midst of an uncertain time for the firm's digital strategy.
“As technology and entertainment further converge, it’s an exciting time for the company, and I look forward to working with the board in continuing Disney’s rich legacy of innovation,” Catz said in a statement.
In August, Disney’s board elected Mary Barra, chairman and CEO of General Motors Co., as a director. She becoming the 12th board member.
