New pre-school property broadcast four times a week; licensing push on way.

DRi has been appointed by Studio 100 to manage the licensing programme for new pre-school show Zigby.

Currently enjoying a good run on Cbeebies - it is being broadcast four times a week at 3.30pm - Zigby was originally created by author and artist Brian Paterson in 2002. More than 650,000 picture and board books have been sold to date, through HarperCollins.

"It is fantastic that the BBC has purchased the series for its winter schedule," said Alicia Davenport, licensing director at DRi. "Cbeebies and Zigby make the perfect partners.

"We are delighted to be handling the UK licensing for Zigby, especially at a time when exciting developments are taking place for the property on an international scale."

Canada's Treehouse TV, France 5, Australia's ABC and Germany's ZDF/Kika all began airing Zigby earlier this year, with Norway's NRK preparing to follow suit.

DRi is currently in negotiations for a number of categories. A toy deal is imminent, while discussions are also underway regarding DVD and publishing.
