eOne looks to grow Peppa Pig in Canada

Corus Entertainment channel Treehouse picks up brand; Studio Licensing to handle merchandising.

Entertainment One Family has secured a Canadian broadcaster for pre-school hit Peppa Pig.

Corus Entertainment's 24-hour pre-school network, Treehouse, has picked up the Astley Baker Davies series and will begin airing episodes in March 2013.

Corus has acquired Peppa Pig seasons one to six for Treehouse, which is the number one pre-school channel in Canada.

Studio Licensing has also come on board to develop a consumer products programme for Peppa in the territory. Studio has also closed deals in a number of categories including toys, accessories, outwear and nightwear, footwear, games and puzzles.

"With Peppa Pig proving to be a ratings hit in North America, Canada was the next key territory in our strategy to build a strong international broadcast platform for the property," explained Olivier Dumont, MD at eOne Family. "We're thrilled to be taking the show to Corus, as it is a market leader in the region and its Treehouse channel will provide the perfect home for Peppa in Canada."
