“After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated” read the petition's statement.
Fans of the late Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher have started a petition to have the character Princess Leia named as an official Disney princess.
“After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated,” reads the petition's statement addressing Disney CEO Bob Iger.
“This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”
The well-known actor and writer passed away on December 27th at the age of 60. Cody Christensen, father of five daughters started the campaign, believing that Leia would be a good addition to the Disney Princess line-up and an excellent role model for little girls.
“We are big fans of the current Princess line-up, but I think that Leia is a really strong, positive, awesome role model for my girls,” Christensen told GeekExchange.
The petition was posted on Change.org and currently sits at over 52,000 signatures with a goal of 75,000.
