Goal also set for more use of renewable materials for core toy and game licensees.
Hasbro is to ditch all wire ties in its packaging from 2011, while it will also be working with key licensees on a number of new environmental goals.
As well as the elimination of the wire ties next year, Hasbro is aiming for at least 75 per cent of its paper packaging to be derived from recycled material or from sustainable sources. By 2015, the firm has set a goal of 90 per cent of usage of these materials for all its paper packaging and in-box game content.
Hasbro is now working with its core toy and game licensees to help them put similar standards in place.
The company is also planning to hire a director of product and packaging sustainability in the US to further support its efforts.
