Homer satnav voice app enters the Guinness World Records

Homer is the most downloaded character voice for GPS personal navigation devices in history.

20th Century Fox and Locutio Voice Technologies have revealed that Homer Simpson has entered the Guinness World Record Books as the most downloaded character voice for satnav devices.

Launched in June 2009, the Homer Simpson voice has to date outsold the nearest competitor by three to one for Personal Navigation Device (PND) based GPS.

Achieving six-figure sales volume in the first year, the voice was then released for TomTom's iPhone mobile phone GPS app in April 2011.

In the US, which accounted for 40 per cent of sales overall, Homer Simpson was also the first authentic premium branded voice to be made available for mobile phone-based GPS, with sales in excess of six times that of its closest rival.

The Guinness World Record further reinforces Fox Consumer Products' successful relationship with Locutio Voice Technologies. As well as Homer, Mr Burns was launched on TomTom's iPhone app in October 2011 and Marge Simpson is now available on TomTom's PND and iPhone platforms.

"Together with Locutio and The Gracie Films Worldwide Brand Division, we have pioneered this exciting new licensing category," said Carl Lumbard, SVP and MD FCP EMEA. "This is a perfect brand fit with The Simpsons on all levels, appealing to all the family as well as the male gadget market.

"We're embarking on an ambitious and exciting voice expansion programme for mobile phone and PND based GPS. The Simpsons continues to break new ground and open up new fronts in the consumer technology space and these pioneering products reflect the brand's ongoing relevance today."
