Lion bags rights to produce live action TV series based on children's book property.

Scholastic Media has confirmed that independent UK production company Lion Television has purchased the rights to create a live action TV series based on Horrible Histories.

The firm is now developing scripts in association with author Terry Deary, with a view to going into full production in 2008.

Horrible Histories is designed to get children interested in history by focusing on the 'nasty bits' - all the wicked, weird and humourous facts that kids are not taught in schools.

Published by Scholastic UK, Horrible Histories has sold over ten million copies in the UK alone and has been translated into 37 languages worldwide.

"Folowing the hugely successful relaunch of the books this year, the TV show will be a great addition to the perennially popular Horrible Histories property," said Lisa Edwards, editorial director, non fiction and licensed properties ate Scholastic.
